Getting Started With Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric surgery is a specialist procedure which requires a referral from your GP to one of our Bariatric specialists which you must bring with you to the first appointment.
Make sure you check that your Health fund covers Bariatric surgery (Sleeve item No. 31575) and bring your Medicare or DVA card in with you too.
Before Surgery
After the initial consultation and discussion of surgical options your surgeon will usually recommend a period of reflection before booking you for the assessment phase. We aim to see people at least three times before their surgery.
This will include:
- Team assessment day with a dietician, exercise physiologist and bariatric assessor
- Pre-op consenting visit with your surgeon a few days before your scheduled surgery
- Post-op follow up. Usually 10 days after surgery with your surgeon, dietitian and the support and education coordinator.
